After months and months of turtlenecks and hefty coats, I’m still in turtlenecks and hefty coats… This time of the year always presents the battle of buying new spring clothes you can’t wear just yet or winter clothes that will live for an extremely short period of time. Looking back at these photos from Paris just make me realize how real the dilemma is, which inspired the topic for today’s post: Winter trends you can still wear in spring. You don’t have to glare at your wardrobe helplessly, feeling like there’s nothing to wear.

By incorporating winter trends that will hold high relevance in spring, you can feel confident and on-trend about what you’re wearing now. This particularly holds true for my New Yorkers!

1 Color

There’s no better season for color than spring; luckily, it also works in the winter. You can easily find lightweight knits, flouncy tops, and cardigans in various colors from crayola hues to easter pastels. Back in Paris, I took Cherry Tomato to a whole new level and matched my fiery red coat to my color-blocked handbag. You guys are probably used to seeing me blend stronger colors together but I kept it pretty neutral here. That’s the key to letting color do its job to stand out this season; it needs no competition.

2 New Blues

I can never say no to new blues – and you shouldn’t either. Get a quick start on your spring wardrobe by updating your denim selections. They’re still practical for wintry-like weather but will hold up for spring and summer. With the 90s redux holding its ground, reflect on that era and use it as a reference for your current jean needs. Colored denim is finding its way back, but also look for updated fits like a form-fitting high-waisted pair, frayed cuffs as I’m wearing, or split flares. Don’t forget to restore your washes as well – I’m currently obsessed with mid-blues and dark indigos.

3 Shopper Bag

Like everything else in fashion this year, spring handbags are extremely nostalgic. From straw bags to clear shoppers and drawstring backpacks, I feel like I’m reliving my youth! The stripe shopper I’m carrying is by Balenciaga and feels very reminiscent of the reusable, recyclables-constructed tote I see other moms carrying. I’m glad this style made a comeback because it’s always the most practical, fits the most stuff, and is one of the comfiest to carry all year. There are so many shoppers available now, but try something meshwoven, or bold so that you can still use it when the temperatures go up. I love that it works for a convenient store run, the beach, or on vacation; it’s always so handy.
