Alexis Dress (ON SALE!) | Free People Earrings | Tod’s Bag (Sold out, affordable option here)
Thinking of escaping the winter cold and heading somewhere warm, breezy, and sandy? I do – all the time lately. Honestly, nothing sounds more ideal than wallowing around on the beach as I catch a tan! Packing for a tropical climate when it’s snowing outside of your window at home can be quite confusing. The last thing you want to do is overpack while en route to paradise, so I put together a list of everything you might need for your next beach vacation. This includes everything from the clothing essentials to smaller items you that might slip your mind.…

Clothing
Be sure to check the temperature of the location you will be traveling to when making your preparations. Higher, balmy temperatures mean choosing clothing items that are breathable.
I always tend to opt for pieces comprised of cotton, gauze, and linen variants because they’re lightweight and comfortable.
Lightweight Tops – I highly recommend packing a selection of tops based on the general activities you will be participating in. If your vacation will consist of nothing but relaxation, go for those more casual tops that can be interchanged with a trusty pair of denim shorts. I like a mix of basic tanks, statement tops, and bodysuits.

Bottoms – When it comes to what to wear on the bottom, you can’t go wrong with skirts and shorts in different fabrications. They’re so easy so slip over a one-piece swimsuit or pair with a bikini top. Currently, I’m very into wrap midi skirts and have been feeling eager to try the bermuda short trend.

Dresses – Dresses are great for day or evening wear since they’re the easiest piece to throw on. I love that you can easily dress them down with flats during the day – or elevate it for a nice dinner at night with a pair of heels.

Swimwear – I like to pack a combination of one-piece swimsuits and bikini separates for the beach. A one-piece can be styled with denim cutoffs when you’re out and about while bikinis are my go-to when I’m really looking to lay out in the sun for a nice tan.

Footwear
Sandals – A pair of sandals that can easily be slipped on as you head from the hotel to the beach is a must on every vacation. It is important to ensure they are comfortable enough to walk around in but aren’t necessarily shoes you will stress about if they happen to get damaged from exposure to the sand or ocean water. My favorites are espadrilles or strappy flats, but I’ll also bring one pair of heels in case I want to dress up.
Sneakers – If you have outdoor activities scheduled such as hiking, your beach sandals might not fare on tougher surfaces. So bring along a pair of sneakers if you plan on factoring in some exploration. Plus, a cute, practical pair of trainers are good for wearing to the airport if you’re going from extreme cold to warm weather.

Accessories
Beach Bag – Depending on your hotel, they might provide a bag that can be used to take on the beach. However, if you’re unsure, throw in a lightweight beach bag.
You’ll need something to carry your towels, reading material, camera, and toiletries to and from the sand. You guys know I’m all about my straw and woven totes since I can also use them as a purse.
Pro tip: When packing up to come home, you can utilize this bag to separate clean clothes from your dirty laundry.
Hat – A beach getaway obviously equates to lots of sun exposure. So, I highly recommend tossing your favorite baseball cap or straw hat in your luggage.
A hat that can easily be thrown on as an additive to your outfit is perfect for when you need a break from the sun.

Skincare
Sunscreen – An indispensable part of my daily routine, sunscreen is imperative on the beach. You can still achieve a golden tan with sunscreen applied. Taking this extra precaution to protect your skin prevents burn and damage. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself in the future! Don’t like the feel of a lotion? No problem, try an easy breezy mist. On that subject, don’t forget a lip balm with SPF too.
Moisturizing Cream – A long day spent laying poolside can definitely dry out your skin without you noticing. Be sure to bring both a hydrating facial and body cream you can apply so your skin stays refreshed and healthy all throughout the duration of your vacation.
