Daylight savings is in effect, the air is warming up, and the flowers are germinating, which means I am ready to take on what is best known as “Spring Cleaning”. There is just something about the emergence of the sun after a long winter that inspires me to tidy up – or maybe the messiest corners of my house are just illuminated more, haha! When this time comes, I love to set aside a weekend in which I tackle every room in the house. Granted, this task can sound a bit daunting because who really enjoys cleaning? However, there are some key spring cleaning tricks I wanted to share to make your life a little easier!…

1. Use a Storage Container Whenever Possible
Marie Kondo, the cleaning goddess herself, inspired me to start using more containers where I need a little more organization in my life. I am talking about the closet, under the bathroom sink, in the utensil drawer, and at the top of the linen closet. If possible, every item you own should have its own home, categorized with other similar things so it makes finding whatever you need a whole lot easier.

2. Lemon Cleans Stainless Steel
Nothing makes me happier than a spotless kitchen. After all, this is where my family spends a lot of time together, cooking and sharing meals, so of course it’s important to me this space stays sacred. If your kitchen needs a deep clean, use a half of a fresh lemon to remove any rust on your stainless steel appliances in your kitchen. Not only does it leave it spotless, but it also fills the room with a fresh, citrusy smell!
3. Dust with a Fabric Softener Sheet
If you are dusting all the surfaces in your home, try substituting your rag with a fabric softener sheet. I find all the dirt really clings to the surface of this material, making dusting around the house a lot more seamless.
4. Essential Oils Freshen Every Load of Laundry
Naturally, cleaning the house translates into laundry!

5. Remove Wall Stains with Toothpaste
If you have children, chances are there might be a doodle or two on the wall somewhere in the house. Hazel and Capri are definitely guilty of doing so and it can be pretty tricky trying to remove their “masterpiece”. Luckily, with a little elbow grease and a dab of toothpaste, the crayon or marker should come right off.
6. Refresh your Dishwasher
Give a quick thanks for all the hard work your dishwasher performs on a weekly basis by freshening it up. Simply, take a small cup comprised of vinegar and baking soda and place it right side up on the top rack. Run a normal cycle and your dishwasher should be good as new and grime-free.
7. Scrub Your Microwave
While you are at it, might as well tackle the microwave too. Prior to scrubbing it out, place a glass of vinegar inside and let it run for 1-2 minutes. This will loosen up all the stains and take away any odors. Once complete, wiping it down will be infinitely easier!

8. Clean Your Keyboard
When I say Spring Cleaning, I am not kidding. I am literally going through every surface in my home and giving it a run down – this includes my keyboard! As someone whose career is to spend countless time on the internet, my keyboard sees a lot of action. Use a cotton swab or a compressed air can to reach every single crevice.
