I have to admit, I am a bit sad about having to tuck away my summer clothing and bathing suits until next year. However, with the economy slowly opening back up and restaurants in full social distancing mode, it is a little easier to get out and do things. That being said, I am stoked to build up my fall wardrobe! I have been doing some trend digging and am so excited to see what is on the horizon in terms of fall and winter fashion. Some of these you are probably familiar with and some others might be new to your wardrobe. Regardless, here is how I’ll be styling fall’s biggest trends.

Cardigans

Sweaters are always in style for the fall time but the one that is definitely taking the cake is the cardigan. Many trendsetters and influencers alike were rocking the cardigan this spring and summer and its’ moment is not over yet. You will continue to see in the upcoming months but in cable knits and other cozy fabrics. Wear your chunky cardi with high-waisted straight leg jeans for a cute, everyday outfit. Be sure to tuck your cardigan into your pants just at the edges and let the rest hang loose.

Knee-High Boots

The fashion set has spoken, and although ankle booties are not going away, fall’s biggest trends (in terms of footwear) are focused on shaft height. Knee high boots are going to be one of the biggest footwear trends for the season. Of course – I love a good faux-leather boot as it can be worn in so many different ways. In the beginning of autumn, you can rock the knee-high boots with tailored shorts to let the boots be the start of the show. As it gets colder, swap the shorts for pleated skirts, knit dresses, or trousers.

Cropped Blazer

Just when you think the blazer has already been maximized, 2020 hits you with the cropped variation. This is obviously just a blazer with a shorter hemline, making it a lot more contemporary. If you are conducting Zoom meetings or heading into the office, you can play up the business vibes by wearing the cropped blazer as your actual top and pairing with a matching bottom. However, I also love the look of the cropped blazer with a corset or lacy bra underneath for a more tantalizing, date night look.

Brown

Fall hues are always resurfacing at this time of year as color palettes naturally transition into much deeper, darker tones. However, one of fall’s biggest trends is no doubt brown – specifically a rich almost chocolate color. Lucky for us, this brown easily pairs with colors like beige, mustard and forest green so it makes styling really easy. A pair of dark chocolate trousers I can wear with different sweaters and blouses with are a must. Or for an easy way to try out this brown trend, try translating it to your accessories. Rich chocolate booties or croc-embossed handbags allow you to ease this trend into your wardrobe.

Slit-Hem Pants

We saw a glimpse of this trend on the runway last year and are finally rolling out to the masses this fall. Mark my word, split-hem pants are going to have their moment this fall. The pant is typically a straighter leg fit with a – you guessed it – slit at the hemline. Try out this trend by wearing a split-hem jean or trouser with a chunky cropped cardigan or a simple t-shirt and blazer. As for shoes, this pant is really great for showing off your footwear so be sure to wear it with really cute boots or heels!

Minimal Bodycon

When I think of this last trend, I think about female empowerment. In terms of more formal looks, fall 2020 is all about the new and improved bodycon dress. Don’t think this is the scantily clad kind either. This new bodycon is both minimal and modern. Think a hip-hugging knit dress or a monochrome long sleeve maxi dress. Let this trend speak for itself by wearing your bodycon dress with little to no gaudy jewelry and pair with some simple, strappy heels or sneakers.
