Before
Here are some before photos… As you can see, it was quite lifeless and empty with a small daybed and a desk that had no home. However, I knew it had a lot of potential with the big open windows, pendant lighting, and hardwood floors.
I wanted it to feel cozy, warm, and homey, which to me, translates into warm neutrals, pops of bold colors, plush textures, and white furniture. Here’s how it turned out:

After
I worked with Home Depot to complete this room because I had already purchased a good amount of furniture from there. Although I opted out of paint this time, I’ve been a big fan of their BEHR paint and used it in my old house (here). I’m so happy with how everything turned out and loved that the slightest changes made the biggest impact. For instance, forgoing paint for wallpaper, changing out the door and cabinet knobs, and layering rugs.

Originally, I was scouring Home Depot for cabinet hardware, but was amazed at their versatile collection of home decor. For instance, the wallpaper, furniture, bedding, nightstand lamp, curtain rods and curtains, and pillows are all from Home Depot. And they were exactly what I wanted. I thought I would break this post down by sharing the small changes I made that really made a difference.

Affordable & Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Room
1 Update your interior door knob
It’s easy to get stuck in the details of picking the right furniture or wall color; however, sometimes, all a room needs is a change of hardware to feel fresh. The simple act of changing out the hardware on your bedroom doors can instantly give your room a new look. I added the Schlage Glass Door Knob to our guest room.
2 Give your furniture hardware a Refresh
Updating your dresser pulls or knobs can also make an impact – just like the door knob. I had a hard time deciding between gold or clear pulls on the white dresser, but ended up going with the HDC Hamilton Dresser Liberty Cabinet Knobs for more of a subtle, glam look.
3 Add simple but stylish furniture
Furniture can make or break any room. I prefer simple white pieces for a nice, homey touch. It also makes a nice backdrop for pops of color, which you can add with chairs and pillows. The wooden bed frame is by StyleWell and brightens up the room. I love that it’s solid wood and feels super sturdy.
4 Put on the finishing touches with cozy pieces
The easiest way to make any room feel homier is to add pillows, throws, and soft textures. Layering rugs were a game changer in this room especially since the floors are wood. I love how it instantly cozies up any space. For the best results, play with different textures or patterns in similar color families. I layered a smaller faux fur rug over a low pile contemporary rug. You can also personalize your space further by adding artwork and lamps.
