It dawned on me that Memorial day is just a few weeks away! Aside from the utmost respect and appreciation we need to give to all of the US troops, I always associated this holiday as the unofficial start of the hot season. This is the time period in which the weather is heating up and the dog days of summer are almost upon us. The long weekend is also an excuse to get together with friends and family whom you might not have seen in awhile. Thankfully, the nice weather makes it easier to have a safe, long-awaited gathering outdoors. Or maybe you want to round up the family and head to the nearest beach or lake for a mini staycation. Whatever your plans may be, there is consequently a fit that is necessary for it! To get you in the holiday spirit, I pulled together a couple of chic, Memorial Day outfits you can recreate come May 31st.…

Gingham
What is a Memorial Day celebration without a picnic? If you do not plan on having one, you could at least emulate the picnic blanket through your outfit – in a more elegant way of course! Gingham is the sweetest, most innocent looking of all the plaid variations out there, especially in a light or pastel palette. It is the perfect pattern to incorporate into your look for the upcoming holiday whether it be in the form of a mini dress, skirt, or top. In this instance, I paired a matching gingham top with a cropped cardigan. I was drawn to the green shade so I wanted to amp up this color by completing the look with some solid green trousers to offset the gingham.

Mint
Speaking of plaid, I recently wore this minty fresh shirt that I felt needed a moment here on the blog too. Trends these days have been all about the loose fits so I made sure to leave the shirt untucked and unbuttoned for that intentional blasé aesthetic. Additionally, my choice of bottoms were rather loose but I did create a faux-hem with these minty strappy sandals. This mint green and white combo is so refreshing and perfect for your Memorial Day festivities! Of course – you can opt for the more avant-garde look by layering a cropped bralette over top of the shirt too.

Cut Out Dress
Cut outs are already one of the most coveted details of the season. Now is the optimal time to try it out since the weather will most likely be heating up at that point. I have to say – this trend looks really eye catching in an all white number too. Since cut outs can be a bit revealing, the clean, stark white helps to make it more digestible for family events. I even took it a step further here and went completely monochromatic by completing the outfit with a white visor, white heels and even white gloves to achieve an old school vintage vibe. Finally, I added a pop, statement handbag to inject the slightest bit of color.

Nautical
Of course, you can always go for the classic Americana twist by incorporating red, white, or blue. Personally, whenever I am trying to channel this good ol’ USA look, I usually end up with a more nautical-leaning outfit. I draped a cyan blue oversized blazer over a yacht-approved striped knit and some crisp high-waisted trousers. I decided to skip the red to keep the look more cool toned, but I did throw just a splash of warmth via the banana yellow sandals.
