There are so many things to be happy about this week with Thanksgiving taking place (check out my outfit recs here), but I can’t deny how much I’m looking forward to Black Friday. After all, what else has the power to put you in a better mood than an amazing sale?! If you are not a veteran, it can be overwhelming to navigate the biggest shopping day of the year. Luckily, I am quite practiced in this realm, and wanted to share with you my must-know tips in order to shop Black Friday 2019 smarter. Without further ado, let’s get started.

Know that not every deal is a deal

Black Friday is overstimulating, so my biggest recommendation is to approach it with some sort of plan of action. Most stores run the same deal every year – and often times start earlier than actual Black Friday. It those cases, it’s better to shop ahead and save actual Black Friday for the exclusive steals. For instance, we know Zara, H&M, and Mango will always run 30% off site wide, and most beauty brands will run between 20-30% off. Mapping out a shopping strategy ahead of time will ensure you’re not wasting time and money in places you don’t need to. On another note, I am excited for Reformation’s 30% off this year, which kicks off on Thanksgiving Day!

Pay attention to ads

Leading up to the big day, many retailers will send you Black Friday previews. Oftentimes, my inbox gets flooded with emails from all my favorite shops exclaiming what their big deals are going to be. Rather than be quick to move them to your trash folder, pay attention to these emails in case a sale catches your eye. Make a note and stash it away for when Black Friday approaches.

Start shopping early

I really hate saying this because I know Thanksgiving is meant to be spent with family, but some of the best deals will kick off in the evening on the day of. Oftentimes, retailers won’t announce that they’re doing this, so you’ll need to check the website or app right around the 7-8pm est mark. I’ve been guilty of waiting and missing out on things I wish I had snagged earlier. And in case you didn’t know, Zara and Nordstrom are both notorious for doing this.

Definitely shop for small appliances

While every deal isn’t a great deal, I find that Black Friday is an awesome time to score savings on small appliances. Whether you’re looking for unique Christmas gifts or want to upgrade your kitchen, you can expect waffle makers, blenders, coffee machines, instant pots, and more to go on major sale.

Use your phones for help

Phones really do come in handy during Black Friday. Not only can you compare prices instantly, but you may even be able to combine Black Friday deals with other discounts. Always check Retail Me Not – and store-exclusive apps. I know Target does a great job offering in-store coupons for certain items.

Look for savings on designer pieces

Black Friday is also a great time to shop for designer pieces as many many things will get marked down. I always keep an eye out for handbag deals at FarFetch, Monnier Freres, and Moda Operandi. But for shoes, it’s all about Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus (which starts now!), and Net-A-Porter (also save up to 50% off now). Stay tuned for my Black Friday 2019 roundup!

Research Return Policies

Lastly, it can be easy to get caught up in the moment. I am guilty of getting a little spend-happy and might end up purchasing more things than necessary if I am not careful. However, before you embark on your shopping endeavors, be sure to research the store’s return policies. The least thing you want to do is to be stuck with an expensive item you no longer need!

All in all, if you are up for the madness of Black Friday 2019, you definitely need to mentally and physically prepare yourself. It is some serious shopping that will leave you exhausted (and a little poorer). Yet, it is totally worth it if you are looking for some major deals. Just be sure to prepare yourself with the above tips so you can make the most out of it. Happy shopping!
