If you live in a climate where you typically experience harsh, cold winter seasons like I do, then you are probably already relying pretty heavily on boots. New York City has been a little warm but we are finally starting to see drops in temperatures that constitute layering up more. And just like anything, there are definitely some certain styles that are going to be trending this winter. Now that holiday shopping is behind us, it is about time to treat yourself to something new! Here are the biggest winter boot trends and how I style them.…

Platform
I love a good height-defying shoe more than the next girl, so needless to say, I am stoked about the current platform boot trend. As much as I adore my kitten heels, there is something so empowering about a tall heel. The platform boot trend definitely adds a little bit of oomph to your everyday outfits, while also acting as a perfect day-to-night option. Given how transitional this style is, I like to pair platform boots with outfits that also cross the line between daytime and nighttime. Anything from midi skirts to cocktail dresses to dark denim is a go.

Combat
We saw the resurgence of combat boots earlier this year, but they are continuing to make waves as we enter winter. This is a much heavier boot look, given how chunky and demanding they are compared to say a plain ankle bootie. When it comes to combat boots, I either like to play up the toughness with some strong pieces like a moto jacket or cool graphic tee. On the other hand, juxtaposing the boot with something more delicate like silk or lace makes a statement too.

Lug Soles
Lug soles have a similar vibe to combat boots in the fact that they are a bit clunkier than your average shoe. This style has a signature, thick rubber sole, traditionally seen on work or hiking boots. However, this winter, you will be seeing it reinvented. You can style the lug sole similarly to the aforementioned combat boot style. Lug soles are also practical, so it’s the perfect fashion-forward option for surviving the snow once it comes.

Structured Knee-High
I am seeing less and less skin tight sock boots and more of structured knee-high boots made from stiffer material like faux-leather. This particular knee-high boot has a much stronger silhouette, ensuring your footwear becomes star of the show. Whether you have croc-embossed, patent leather, or metallic, a structured knee-high looks amazing when played with proportions. Pair these with a mini dress or skirt so you can really show them off.

Weather Repellent
Rain Boots are now okay when there isn’t any downfall in the forecast. These weather repellent shoes are coming back in a big way. In fact, Louis Vuitton just released new sleek versions, including some that are a variant between a boot and a sneaker. Rain boots are the new street style look,
so play around with items like distressed denim, leather and athleisure.
