Layering is totally my jam during this time of year. New York gets its fair share of cold fronts, so layering is not only for style – but for survival. However, wearing the same old parka day in and day out can be quite dull and tiresome. In order to keep your outfits fresh and stylish, it is all about switching up the outermost layer. This year, we are seeing a lot of variety in terms of trending coats and jackets. There are certain styles that compliment your look and others that completely steal the show. No matter what though, each makes an impression. Here are some of the best winter coats that will transform your style from now into 2020.…

Leather Trench
I have brought up this particular coat numerous times on the blog this season, with obviously no signs of slowing down. As we progress into winter, the leather trench still holds true. First of all, leather anything is so in for the season, let alone a statement jacket. As soon as you put it on, it adds a touch of incognito, instantly elevating your look.

Neutral Plaid
In addition to trendy textures and silhouettes, we also continue to see a repeat of more classic styles that reemerge every winter. Plaids are back again and are a great way to step up your printed coat game. I prefer to stick with neutrals in this style because it means there is a better chance you can pair it with a more diverse range of looks. It’s also the perfect style to enhance your more simple looks.

Oversized Puffer
If I had to choose trend I am most excited for, I cannot deny that the puffer is one of the more thrilling styles simply because of how sensible it is. This jacket is perfect for whipping out when a snowstorm is in the weather predictions, but also acts as a trendy layering device anytime throughout winter. I find that puffer jackets go hand-in-hand with your more urban, streetwear inspired outfits. And they even come in faux fur iterations.

Faux-Fur
No coat makes me feel more glam than a longline faux-fur jacket. If you have any upcoming formal events or maybe even a date night, the last thing you want to do is to dress to the nines but then cover up your outfit with an old parka. Instead, substitute for something a little extra, like a faux-fur jacket, because it looks so good when layered over a cocktail dress or jumper.

Bold Color
Quite contrary to the last style, I also have been loving a more bold outerwear option for when I really do want the jacket to be the highlight of the entire look. A bold color, such as red, will ensure you really stand out from the crowd. If it is too much of a single color going on, you can accent the look by adding a printed scarf for some added interest.

Classic Camel
Just like the aforementioned plaid, the camel coat is also a tried and true wintertime favorite. In terms of versatility, I would have to say this coat takes the cake. The camel coloring makes it easy to pair with any color combination and the simple, yet effective cut makes it universally flattering. If you are looking for something timeless and effortless, this is the option for you!
