Orchid Show at New York Botanical Garden

Head over to the Bronx to see the rightfully hyped Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. You will be amazed at the thousands of orchids on display in varying shades of purple, white, orange, green, and more. Jeff Leatham, floral designer, is the botanical expert behind the show and

you will surely be impressed with his wondrous displays of orchids. It is ongoing from now until May 1st so don’t miss out.

Check Out the Cherry Blossoms

The cherry blossoms are about to bloom any minute in NYC and there are plenty of photogenic spots. To witness the beautiful pink flowers up close, here are some of my personal favorite spots to go to. It is a no brainer but Central Park is mesmerizing during cherry blossom season. You could also kill two birds with one stone by witnessing the Orchid Show and seeing the cherry blossoms at NYBG. Some other hotspots are Prospect Park, Union Square Park, and Washington Square Park.

Easter Parade

If you will be in the city on Easter Sunday (April 17), the 2022 NYC Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival will be marching through from 10 AM – 4 PM. The parade goes up Fifth Avenue and starts at 49th St to 57th St. It is more informal and anyone can participate in marching in the parade, just don’t forget your fancy bonnet!

The High Line has been a staple in New York City since the grand opening in 2009. It is a 1.45 mile long elevated linear park on an old rail line in the Chelsea neighborhood. There is something so magical about walking through a pathway that is lined with greenery while also gazing out and looking at the expansive skyscrapers that the city is known for.

Free Art at Little Island

Little Island is the city’s newest park addition at Pier 55. You might recognize it because of the unique architecture as it is truly an artificial island. In general, it is a really nice place to stroll but even more so during the glorious spring temperatures. Keep an eye out on their calendar because the park continually hosts free live performances including dancers, musicians, and comedians.

Smorgasburg

Gear up for Smorgsaburg, the largest weekly open-air food market in America. It returns in the beginning of April with locations in both Brooklyn and Manhattan. There are an endless amount of amazing stalls selling all different cuisines. Essentially, it is a foodie lover’s paradise! This is such a fun place to go with your friends or family.

Picnic in the Park

If the Smorgasburg is too crowded for your liking, why not set up your own picnic at any of the parks around the city. This is one of my personal favorite things to do in the springtime. Plus, it is fairly budget-friendly. You can make it a romantic picnic by packing a bottle of your favorite wine and maybe even some flowers to set the mood.

Rooftop Bar Hop

Blow off some steam by bar hopping to any of New York’s famous rooftop bars for a cocktail (or two). There is nothing like recruiting some friends after a long work week by sipping a drink and taking in the wondrous skyline. Arlo SoHo is very Instagram friendly, 230 5th is known for their view of the Empire State Building, and Refinery Rooftop has great drinks and even better food.

Take a Hike

Believe it or not, the Bronx has a ton of parks to explore and you can even make it a day trip and go hiking. The Kazimiroff Trail (part of the Pelham Bay Park) offers a great escape into nature which could be the refresher you need if you are a local resident of Manhattan.

Set Sail

Travel from land to sea by going on a sunset sail. Golden hour is one of my favorite times of day (for obvious reasons) and I cannot even begin to tell you how beautiful the city looks bathed in warm light. This is perfect for visitors who want to see the Statue of Liberty up close or for those who just want a fun day in the sun. After all, nothing beats a sail with a glass of champagne in your hand.

I hope this can act as a springboard for the next time you want to partake in an outdoor attraction in NYC! Have you already done any of these outdoor activities in New York City? If so, what was your experience like?
