The funniest thing I’ve discovered about the no-makeup makeup look is that it actually requires quite a bit of makeup – especially if you don’t already have flawless skin. There’s also not a whole lot of room for error when it comes to the application because the slightest mishap will immediately be detectable. However, the no-makeup look is highly coveted for its natural and healthy finish that makes you look bright and awake. When done right, it looks pretty magical and low key. It’s taken me some practice, but I think I’ve finally nailed it. Here are my favorite products to achieve the no makeup look flawlessly.1. Mist
The first thing you need to do is mist your face so your skin can absorb all the hydration and moisture it can get. Tatcha’s Dewy Skin Mist is perfect for this because it’s silky and really boosts that inner glow. Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir is another blogger favorite that’s preps and/or sets the skin nicely. I love using mists before and after makeup because it results in a fresh, radiant complexion.
2. Priming Moisturizer
On days when I’m in need of products to achieve the no makeup look, I opt for a priming moisturizer so I can get the most natural finish. Priming moisturizers are great for preparing your base, toning down redness, and plumping up the skin. First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie hydrates the skin nicely and smells amazing. You can also try Too Cool for School Egg Mellow Cream or Korres Yoghurt Priming Moisturizer.
3. Conceal
To master the no makeup look, you have to learn how to apply makeup in a way that’s unnoticeable to the eye. Light, thin layers are key, so I avoid foundation altogether and go straight for concealer. You really want your skin to look like skin. I typically use two concealers – a creamy one that covers up scars and pigmentation well, and then a liquid one to use underneath my eyes. For creamy concealers, I highly recommend Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage Concealer or Nars Soft Matte Concealer. For underneath the eyes, Charlotte Tilbury’s The Retoucher Pen is amazing along with Shiseido’s Sheer Eye Zone Corrector.
4. Highlighter
Highlighter is, of course, a MUST for creating a dimensional glow. I love highlighters that look more like a face gloss over a full-on shimmer. For that, Ciaté’s Dew Stix is one of the best out there, but Milk Makeup also makes amazing highlighters that create a light, colorless sheen. I love applying highlighter on my cupid’s bow, the inner corners of my eyes, right along the brow bone, on the tip of my nose, and just lightly on the outer part of my eyes. Be careful not to overdo it, otherwise, you might look greasy instead of dewy.
5. Brows
The no makeup look can’t be done without great eyebrows! If you have full, youthful eyebrows, all you is a great brow gel to help darken and thicken them. Glossier Boy Brow is excellent for this with its putty-like texture and tiny spoolie. However, if your brows are on the thinner side like mine, then you definitely need a brow pencil – and of course, my top pick is Anastasia Brow Wiz. You can also try Anastasia’s Brow Powder Duo for a softer finish.
6. Lip & Cheek Tint
A lip & cheek tint is essential when it comes to products to achieve the no makeup look. I believe cream or liquid products are the best when trying to nail this look because they provide the lightest wash of color while keeping the skin in its most natural state. RMS Lip2Cheek is sheer but buildable, so no one would ever notice you’re wearing makeup. It gives a bit of a sun-kissed look and looks glorious on the lips. For a budget-friendly option, you should try Ulta’s Lip + Cheek Color Stick.
7. Lash Curler
Finally, lash curler is a must. You don’t have to wear mascara but curling the lashes will make your eyes look so much brighter. Lash curlers can be tricky because they’re not one-size fits all, but I’ve found Shiseido’s Lash Curler to be the best out there!
