Visit the New Little Island
This spring, visit the new park, Little Island, at Pier 56. This modern-like structure on the water is supposed to be a break from urban life and promotes a unique relationship between nature and art. There is a playground, a large lawn, amphitheater and lookout spots within the island. Although, there is not an exact opening date quite yet, Little Island is definitely supposed to be open sometime this spring for all of New York so be sure to be on the lookout!

Picnic in the Park
During the springtime, I will never say no to a picnic in the park! My family is a big fan of eating al fresco in our own backyard but getting out to a local park will be a welcoming change of pace. If you are up for it, pack your basket with some homemade sandwiches or maybe even a makeshift charcuterie board with a side of fresh fruit. However, if you are too eager to get outside right away, there is no shame in grabbing some takeout to enjoy during your picnic! Popular places like Central and Bryant Park might be pretty busy so you could always check out a smaller space like Morningside Park in Upper Manhattan.
Outdoor Dining
If you are not a picnic type of person, you can still enjoy the nice weather by choosing to dine outdoors. So many of our local restaurants have severely been impacted this past year and continue to suffer and even close. As it gets nicer outside, you can support your favorite restaurants by dining outdoors with them! Not only are you social distancing, but you can also get fresh air without having to feel like you are suffocating.
I will never tire of having a delicious meal in the streets of New York. There is something so magical about it and it’s a
great way to celebrate the start of spring! (Recommendations: Jeju Noodle Bar, Rooftop at Pier 17, and Scarpetta.)
Drive-In
Movie theaters have opened up in NYC with social distancing guidelines. However, if you are still hesitant but would love to get out and see a movie, consider taking a trip to a nearby drive-in movie theater. This allows you to get out for date night or family night, while still being able to stay safe within your own space so there is minimal exposure to others. There is a drive-in theater in Queens and a diner style option in Astoria that allows you to order food. So dress comfortably and head out to the nearest drive-in theater!

Staten Island Ferry
One way to get outdoors and in the sunshine is to take a free ferry trip. Even though I have lived in NYC for so many years now, it’s good to get out and do some touristy things to remind myself why I love this city so much. The 25 minute ride will allow you to get amazing views of the Harbor, Statue of Liberty, and of course – the breathtaking city skyline. This is a romantic little day activity you can do with your significant other (they serve alcohol on the ferry)! Or something really fun you can do with your kids.
