So about a month ago we all told ourselves the typical “New Year, New You” – and even made that promise to find a new look that puts the best version of ourselves forward. It also may happen that we got ahead of ourselves and put that on the back burner. Well, we’re deep in the heart of winter now and while any resolution to update your closet may feel like a fuzzy memory, it doesn’t mean there aren’t a few simple things you can do right now to give yourself and your wardrobe the refresh it deserves. Keep reading for my easy ways to look more stylish……

1. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize
Accessories can make an outfit, and it can be as simple as a subtle little tweak in how you’re wearing them that makes all the difference. A trend that’s been all over lately – but one that I’ve always adored – is putting your necklaces over knitwear (typically gold chains and/or pendants on turtlenecks). It is a really classy look that plays into layering too.
Currently, What Goes Around Comes Around is running a sale on their jewelry collection. You guys know how much I love them for unique, one-of-a-kind finds like the Chanel earrings I’m wearing above. You can save 25% off on all jewelry and watches – and 15% on Rolex by shopping here now. (Perfect timing with Valentine’s Day around the corner too!)

Another key accessory you can play with is the belt; sometimes it’s a matter of just tying it in a knot instead of looping it through, or braiding the end piece around the waist.
2. Play with color to make certain pieces POP!
If you want a quick way to rework your wardrobe, think about your existing pieces in monotone outfits with a single pop of color. Going tonal with one color head-to-toe – or a spectrum of adjacent shades looks sophisticated and well thought-out.

Picking a piece to highlight or accent through color contrast is sure to turn heads. It doesn’t really matter what shade although matching neutrals is always chic.
As for your accent, we saw pea green and plaid all over fashion week last week, so you can bet on that for your impossibly stylish statement color/print.

3. Layer Up!
Layering is quick, easy, and, in most cases, functionally beneficial to bring any outfit to the next level, especially since it’s February. One of my favorite layering tricks that also maximizes your existing wardrobe is to take a favorite summer dress and throw it over a plain turtleneck and cool leggings. Don’t be scared to double up on warmer weather items too – like a turtleneck and oversized sweater. If you’re not into that complex layering experimentation, a draped blanket scarf or poncho will give your entire look a little winter style boost.

4. Try an oversized, statement piece
There’s no denying that the oversized trend is happening everywhere. This little trick may require a small investment, but the oversized suit jacket is the easiest piece to just throw over your ensemble and add relevance to your outfit. This fashion week season has seen a huge trend in comfortable tailoring, longer skirt lengths, and relaxed outwear – all in order to reflect a movement of female empowerment and demand for clothes that make a statement for real women and real confidence.

5. When in doubt, wear sneakers
I’m going to tell you a secret… Your sneakers can be worn with a whole lot more outfits than you think, especially the ones that seem to be meant for something more dressed up. These days, there’s nothing more effortlessly cool than pairing the casual shoe with a sophisticated trouser or dress and just owning it.
