Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays – not just because I love chocolate, but I think it’s a wonderful way to celebrate love in general. If you’re stressing out about the holiday already, I have a few posts coming out this week to help you out. And today, I’m kicking us off with finding the perfect look. No matter who you’re celebrating with, my outfit ideas below will highlight the warm fuzzy feelings needed in the middle of winter! Here’s what to wear on Valentine’s Day:…

For a casual date…
If you’re planning to keep it chill with a casual dinner followed by a night at the movies this Valentine’s Day, it’s perfectly fine to wear denim – and refrain from pink or red. To keep a look from going too over-the-top, try styling a pair of nice jeans with a statement sweater and blazer. One of my favorite colors to wear right now is blue. Putting a tonal look together that isn’t pink is as unexpected and charming as it is comfy. Finish it off with suede booties that you’ll last a few blocks in. I love ending movie night with a short stroll around the city.

For a fancy dinner or party…
I have to admit that I do love fancy dinners since this is one of the few occasions at the beginning of the year that allows you to go all out. The holiday cheer basically ends after the New Year festivities, but Valentine’s Day brings it back. This is your chance to show up in full Love Goddess attire. A long red dress is about as elegant as you can be. Sequins are always fun and festive – and eyes will be drawn to you all night! I also love long red or pink coats for a night out on the town!

For a concert…
Going out to a concert or event is such a fun Valentine’s Date idea! Black jeans, leather pants, or a leather skirt will look appropriate and sexy with a velvet top. I love that it’s edgy while still highlighting the dressy spirit of St. Valentine. Silk and lace tanks with a heavier jacket are another great option because it’s an easy way to stay warm outside, but not be burning up once you get into the venue.

To go ice skating…
Ice skating at the Central Park rink is such a classic romantic date idea! It’s also a fun thing to do with kids if you’re out celebrating with your whole family! For this activity, you obviously want to bundle up, so coordinating a pink or red sweater with a cute winter cap makes a cute, festive (and warm) ensemble. I’d recommend jeans because – unless you’re training for figure skating – you’re probably going to fall at least once. So, you want to protect your legs!

For Galentine’s Day…
As I mentioned earlier, Valentine’s Day isn’t just about celebrating romantic love! Friendship is also a different kind of love that’s deep and lasts forever. It deserves its own commemoration! I love going out to brunch with the ladies and showing how much I truly appreciate them. For a Galentine’s Day brunch, I think pink is a wonderful color. You could dress completely in pink, layering a variety of shades. Pale pink tops and sweaters with a satin skirt are lovely for a more casual brunch. If you’re trying out a fancier place, have fun with sparkly jewelry!
