I am sure I am not alone when I say that one of my favorite things about the holiday season are the many parties that bring the whole family together. Nothing makes me smile more than all the beloved people in my life in one room. If you’re finally meeting your significant other’s family over the holidays, then it’s time to rethink your wardrobe. While you may be a fashionista, there are obviously some outfits that aren’t necessarily appropriate for a family get together. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look your best! Before you decide what to wear, it’s important to think about the context of where you’ll be meeting them – is it a dinner at a restaurant, game night at their house, or brunch?…

Regardless of where you’ll be, I’m covering some of my favorite festive looks which are perfect if you still have no idea what to wear to meet the parents over the holidays.
Dressy Occasion
Pretty in Pleats
Whenever I have plans to meet the parents or in-laws for a nice sit down dinner during the month of December, I need the perfect outfit that is conservative but still true to my style. Since it’s important to look polished and put together, I cannot help but reach for something pleated, ruffly, or feminine. There is just something so graceful about a mid-length pleated skirt. I recently shared this gorgeous Reiss skirt in an electrifying honey gold shade, and I think it’s a such a gorgeous piece to impress the parents. If you’re not in the mood to piece together an outfit, you can’t go wrong with a red ruffle dress.

Home for the Holidays
Another foolproof option is sticking to a casual sweater with jeans or leggings and a pair of booties. You can spruce it up with a glittery clutch and some statement earrings.
My final third option here would be a sweater dress and boots. Just make sure to keep the hemline closer to – or below the knees.

Brunch & Everything Else
For in-between activities like brunch, don’t hesitate to whip out a layerable dress, an inkling of plaid, or a skirt and sweater combo. I prefer to wear an outfit that would look great with casual elements like sneakers, a cardigan, or a trench coat.
The key is making sure you’re not overdressed but also not overly casual. Think day to day pieces that are playful without being too complicated.
