Catching a glimpse backstage also lets you see the amount of work that goes into a single show. It’s really a team effort – a collaborative environment – that brings these beautiful shows to life. I love watching how the nail artists put the final touches on polish as the makeup artists top off the finishing looks. But enough of the action, let’s get into the trends.

Matte Skin
Matte skin was one of those overarching themes I noticed from one show to another. I first took note of this at Cushnie et Ochs, then saw it again at Alexander Wang and Tibi. There’s a saying that “three’s a trend”, and it definitely applies here.
The sculpted cheeks, seemingly untouched skin, and soft highlights all came off supernatural but glorious.

Graphic Eyeliner
I didn’t see a ton of heavy eyeshadow going on just pops of color here and there; however, graphic eyeliner is going to be huge this fall. Whether you’re into strong colored lines and shapes as we saw Stila perform at Tibi, or metallic blacks, you’d better step up your eyeliner game this fall.

If you paid any attention to the models’ hands at the shows, then you’d have noticed the neutral and earthy colors. Even with the high-shine top coat we saw Essie demonstrate at Alexander Wang, it was faint yet still striking. I saw the same overarching theme at Phillip Lim with JINsoon creating neutral nails.

Sleek Hair
I have always been a fan of big, voluminous hair but it looks like those days are gone. Just about every single backstage pass I had, the models had smooth, slicked back hair – a look I’m learning to embrace. I love how it easily elevates any look without much effort, and how practical it is as well. There’s nothing better than having hair out of your face to show off the subtle makeup and bold sunglasses!
