The one fashion item I look forward to season after season are inevitably shoes. The big debate these days are to go with socks or no socks? Personally, I’m pro socks! I was so surprised when I first shared these photos a few weeks ago that many of you demanded styling tips for wearing socks with shoes. The timing couldn’t have been better because this pairing is going to be HUGE for Spring! I can’t think of a better way to get an early start on your Spring sandals or to spruce up your ankle boots.…

It’s currently too cold for open-toed sandals, but throw a pair of socks underneath them and you’re good to go. No matter how you’ve been trained, you can wear socks with sandals in real life. This combination probably looks and feels awkward to you, but remember that it’s not just meant for the runways. Follow some of my tips below to pull it off immaculately.

Everyone’s legs are different – it just depends on how you perceive yourself. If you feel confident about your legs, play with texture to make your footwear stand out more – like ribbed socks and velvet sandals or marled socks with leather.
Experiment with color.
For a tailored but still forward look, play with monotone or complimentary hues. For instance, red socks with red color-blocked heels or gold socks with violet heels. The easiest combo, however, is obviously black socks with black sandals because it’s unnoticeable yet chic.
Always consider the bigger picture.
In order to pull off socks with sandals, you always have to think about your outfit as a cohesive whole. If you want to wear a mini skirt or dress but it’s chilly outside, think about the effect of thigh-high socks (like I did in the photo above). Thigh-high socks are slimming, so you can wear them exactly as you would regular tights. To make a casual outfit (see photo left) pop, bring out some mesh metallic socks with chunky sandals. They can almost pass for boots.

Socks with Sneakers
If you’re looking to dabble with pull-up socks and sneakers, my number one tip is to NOT shy from colored socks. White socks with sneakers will feel way too rudimentary or like an old school sporting event. However, fresh white sneakers with a pop of hot pink socks or even a fishnet detailing will look modern and fashion forward.
To introduce this trend into your outfits gracefully, pair it with a maxi skirt or rolled up boyfriend jeans. Once you get more comfortable, you can show off your socks in a mini skirt or shorts.
Don’t forget to toy with meshing fun printed socks like polka dots and stripes with glittery or metallic sneakers. These combos exude a funky but cool girl vibe.

Showing off your socks in a pair of booties is probably the easiest way to wearing socks with shoes. You can easily pull your socks over jeans and slide on some booties for a casual, weekend look. However, to wear them with a dress, grab a pair of socks that barely rises above the boots. This peek-a-boo effect looks super cozy and cute especially with pom pom, lace, or frilly edges.
